I'm Louise McCrady's daughter, THE source for ShiRRéT crochet - since 1968.
I'm the third generation, and my 18 and 15 year old children Lovis and Juliet are the fourth generation of Shirrét. My mother's mother revived Shirret in 1920 from before the Civil War.
In 1968, Louise McCrady created the name "Shirret" for the not rag rugs she and her mother taught in Ohio and Indiana in the 1920's. Dress factory foreman Katrin Hart Ent ILGWU couldn't bear to waste the cabbage-rose print cotton on the cutting room floor ! Katrin made targets and ovals, and daughter Louise made Butterfly bedside carpets with her scraps.
I'm a NY painter. When I travel, I crochet obsessively in vivid color. The CrazyFast rhythm grounds me, helps me problem-solve, and makes me feel productive. I add both a UK-French fusion, and art theory to Shirrét. I fashion Wraps for my shades, mobile and laptop, sunflowers, and Tibet flap hats from silk neckties. Juliet makes sailor and ballerina wrist wraps, and she styles long thin shoulder totes for her drum sticks. Lovis makes guitar straps.
As a color specialist, I've inherited the title of curator and authority on Shirret, and I sell the supplies u need at fair prices.Credit Card and PayPal purchases are Certified Secure and your privacy is protected.
