I'm Louise McCrady's daughter, THE source for Shirret crochet since 1968.

I'm the third generation, and my 18 and 15 year old children, Lovis and Juliet, are the fourth generation of Shirrét. My mother's mother revived Shirret in 1920 from before the Civil War. Dress factory foreman Katrin Hart Ent ILGWU couldn't bear to waste the cabbage-rose print cotton on the cutting room floor ! Katrin and daughter Louise taught their technique in Indiana and Ohio in the late 1930's. Katrin made targets and ovals, and daughter Louise made Butterfly carpets with her scraps!

In 1968, Louise McCrady created the name "Shirret" for these rich, luxurious, not rag rugs.

I'm a NY painter. I travel for exhibitions, I lecture, and I've also inherited the title of curator and authority on Shirret. The CrazyFast rhythm of shirret is good for problem-solving and for feeling productive.
